In the last few years, one of the main fields of focus of Icaiplast R&D Department has been the automotive field, through the design and creation of synthetic leather for seat upholstering for a wide range of applications: from automotive to industrial vehicles, from agricultural machines to motorbike and bike seats, subways, aircrafts and trains.
Material strength
In our research labs, PVC and PU coated fabrics for the public and private transportation sector are periodically subjected to self-extinguishing and vandalism resistance (cuts and scratches) tests.
In addition, they are compliant with the provisions set forth by the Reach System – the European Regulation to improve the protection of human health and the environment against chemicals – and they are phthalate-free.
Characteristics of our products
Depending on the target sectors, PVC and PU coated fabrics are designed with specific characteristics.
Railway sector
Synthetic leather for the railway sector includes phtalate-free PVC and PU materials, obtained after long studies and experimentations, that led to the creation of a certified polyurethane product according to Standard EN45545 – which specifies the requirements for reaction to fire and fume toxicity of the materials and products used on railway cabs – capable of meeting the most demanding specifications.
Icaiplast PVC and PU coated fabrics – already supplied to the major European and American railway companies – are ideal to upholster train seats, waiting room benches and furniture, customised priority seats and hatbox coverings.

Automotive
Synthetic leather for the automotive sector: employed as PVC coating for car interiors, buses (panels and seats), RVs, curtains and mats.
Icaiplast synthetic leather is resistant to weather, abrasions, UV radiations and biological fluids. They can be subjected to special processing (high-frequency, serigraphy, heat drilling and heat sealing), and are characterized by a wide range of thickness, embossing, colours, patterns and colour fastness.
Upholstery
Synthetic leather for the upholstery field: used to upholster motorcycle, agricultural vehicles and bike seats.
Featuring a high level of elasticity that allows adapting them even to the most complex seats, they are resistant to weather, abrasions, UV radiations and biological fluids.
They are available with grip and supergrip finish, and the same article can be supplied in two versions: with a waxy or extra waxy feel. Characterized by a wide range of thickness, embossing, colours, patterns and backings, Icaiplast synthetic leather is resistant to weather, abrasions, UV radiations and biological fluids. They can be subjected to special processing (high-frequency, serigraphy, heat drilling and heat sealing).
Aircraft sector
Synthetic leather for the aircraft sector is used to cover floors, seats, backrests, benches and furniture.
Class 1 M certified (fire resistance), and characterized by a wide range of thickness, embossing, colours, patterns and backings, Icaiplast synthetic leather is resistant to weather, abrasions, UV radiations and biological fluids.
